Korean Skincare for Dry & Dehydrated Skin

Fix the barrier first, and everything else follows

By Lindsey Rapp  ·  Licensed Esthetician  ·  5 Min Read

Korean skincare for dry and dehydrated skin is built on one idea: fix the barrier first. Dry skin lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water. Most people have both, which is why flakes, tightness, and dullness keep showing up no matter how much moisturizer they pile on.

The Distinction

What's the Difference?

Dry skin is a skin type, low oil production. Dehydrated skin is a condition, low water content, that anyone can have, even oily skin types. If your face feels tight after cleansing, looks dull, and shows fine dehydration lines on your cheeks, you're dehydrated even if your T-zone gets oily.

Beta glucan and ceramides rebuild the barrier so you stop losing water throughout the day.

The Routine

Step by Step

Corthe Cleansing Oil

Cleanse

Corthe Cleansing Oil at night to remove SPF without stripping, Dermathod Moist Morning Cleanser in the morning.

NeoGenesis Beta Glucan Serum

Hydrate

NeoGenesis Beta Glucan Barrier Recovery Serum, my post-treatment essential in the studio.

Corthe Rich M Cream

Seal

Corthe Moisture RX for lighter hydration, or the richer Rich M Cream, the barrier cream I prescribe after peels.

Ingredients

What Helps Dehydrated Skin?

Look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, beta-glucan, ceramides, and sterols. Beta-glucan and ceramides in particular rebuild the barrier so you stop losing water throughout the day.

Timeline

How Long Does It Take?

Skin that's seriously dehydrated can bounce back in 1 to 2 weeks with the right routine. Rebuilding a damaged barrier takes 4 to 6 weeks of consistent, gentle care.

Frequently Asked

Why does my skin still feel dry even with moisturizer? You're probably missing a humectant step. Water-based serums go under your cream, not instead of it.

Can I use hyaluronic acid if my skin is already dry?Yes, but apply it to damp skin and always seal with a cream, in dry air it can pull moisture out of your skin otherwise.

Do I need a separate night cream? Not always. A rich cream like the Corthe Rich M Cream works great at night on its own.

Is face oil good for dehydrated skin?Oils seal moisture in but don't add water. Use them as the last step after a hydrating serum and cream.
